Immigration Reform

DailyKos had an article today on immigration and recent polling. The right will tell you that Americans don't want to allow illegal immigrants to become citizens, but again this is not a supported fact.

When discussing comprehensive immigration reform you get a good amount of support:

Total Support 64
Strongly support 31
Somewhat support 33
Total Oppose 21
Somewhat oppose 10
Strongly oppose 10

On the other hand if you explain the "comprehensive immigration reform" to them they support it even more. Here is the exact questioning:
One version of immigration reform that people have discussed would take a comprehensive approach. It would secure the border, crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, and require illegal immigrants to register for legal immigration status, pay back taxes, and learn English in order to be eligible for U.S. citizenship. Would you ... Congress passing this proposal?

Resulting in these numbers:
Total Support 86
Strongly support 58
Somewhat support 28
Total Oppose 14
Somewhat oppose 6
Strongly oppose 7

Is there any chance to hide that people are for this type of reform? There doesn't appear to be much to debate here, but as usual the RW lunatics like Glenn Beck will use fear to push the debate...Glenn Beck Burns Actor
